Universal
Studios Purchases XBox Video Converter
Burbank,
California, October 25, 1999 - Universal Studios purchased the XBox video
converter for their Digital Video Compression Center (DVCC) at Universal
City, California. The XBox is an integral part of the DVCC's film transfer
service for full-length motion pictures. The DVCC has transferred titles
for major motion picture releases from Universal, Paramount, Fox and others.
Universal
selected the XBox for its superior functionality and picture quality.
The XBox is used by Universal to transfer HDTV 1080i masters to 525 and
625 line video. The 525 and 625 line master created via the XBox are in
turn compressed by the DVCC's compression equipment to create digital
video discs (DVD).
The
XBox offers unparalleled flexibility and performance in a video converter.
It converts between multiple HDTV and standard definition video standards
including 1080i, 1035i, 720p, 525, and 625 line video. Its modular design
gives you the option to configure an XBox to your specific requirements.
Additional functionality can later be added via new video output, input,
and processing modules. For example, the XBox can be configured to perform
only as an HDTV upconverter, and later upgraded with the HD card module
to convert from 1080i to 720p.
In
addition the XBox features image manipulation functions such as anti-alias
filters, dynamic pan & scan, zoom, and complete aspect ratio control.
In film mode the XBox is capable of adding/removing a 3:2 sequence, and
features off-speed PAL input and output
